Be advised that on Monday, March 18, 2024 LCWD will be upgrading the water system at the intersection of Lowell Street and Durham Drive. Work involves installing new gate valves within this intersection that will assist in controlling flow and isolating pipe segments when needed during maintenance and emergencies. The work is being completed by the Vallis Development project as part of their approved development project.
In preparation for this work, you may experience some discoloration this Friday morning and then again on Sunday evening as LCWD crews prepare the system for work. On Monday, the following streets will lose water while others in the general area may be impacted with discoloration and/or pressure changes. Water will be off from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Areas of water loss
- Lowell Street from Main Street to the Peabody town line
- Mohawk Lane
- Lil’s Way
- Smith Farm Trail
- Pocahontas Way
- Ostis Way
- Durham Drive from Lowell Street to Grey Lane
Residents on Willowby Way, Lansdowne, Durham from Grey to Daventry and Daventry may also experience some water loss during this window of work.
If as a result of this work you EXPERIENCE PERIODS WITH NO WATER, POOR PRESSURE AND POSSIBLY DISCOLORATION OF THE WATER, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE WATER IS TURNED BACK ON, please see below:
- TURN YOUR COLD WATER ON FIRST AND LET IT RUN UNTIL IT IS CLEAR, preferably from an outside water spigot.
- Do not run your hot water or use your dishwasher until the water is clear.
- Do not use your washing machine–your clothes may become stained.
- Although the water is safe to drink, please avoid drinking the water if it is discolored.
- We do not recommend, but you may flush your toilet; however, when the water is turned on you will need to flush several times to clear the discolored water from the toilet tank.
- If you accidentally use your hot water while the water is discolored, you may have to completely flush the hot water tank to clear out the discoloration and there is a possibility that you may damage the hot water heater.
