Work involves installing new hydrant at the dead end of the street on the opposite side of the cul-de-sac. The new hydrant will be installed at the very end of the water system which will provide proper flushing of the entire street when needed during maintenance and emergencies. The plan is to remove the existing hydrant once the new one is installed and functional. New water services to #17 and #19 Smith Farm Trail will be installed from the new water main to the driveway water shutoff as part of this work tomorrow as well. This work is being completed by the Vallis Development project as part of their approved development permit.
On Thursday, all of Smith Farm Trail will lose water while others in the general area may be impacted with discoloration and/or pressure changes. Water will be off from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
If as a result of this work you EXPERIENCE PERIODS WITH NO WATER, POOR PRESSURE AND POSSIBLY DISCOLORATION OF THE WATER, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE WATER IS TURNED BACK ON, please see below:
- Turn your cold water on first and let it run until it is clear, preferably from an outside water spigot.
- Do not run your hot water or use your dishwasher until the water is clear.
- Do not use your washing machine–your clothes may become stained.
- Although the water is safe to drink, please avoid drinking the water if it is discolored.
- We do not recommend, but you may flush your toilet; however, when the water is turned on you will need to flush several times to clear the discolored water from the toilet tank.
- If you accidentally use your hot water while the water is discolored, you may have to completely flush the hot water tank to clear out the discoloration and there is a possibility that you may damage the hot water heater.
Thank you for your cooperation today as LCWD began upgrading the water system at the dead end of Smith Farm Trail.
