The Board of Commissioners announces that the Lynnfield Center Water District will hold a Special District Meeting on Thursday, Oct. 20.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Al Merritt Center, 600 Market St., and is open to all. Only registered voters within the District may vote.
District voters will be asked to accept inclusion of four parcels on Main Street currently owned by Sagamore Spring Golf Course. Sagamore Spring Real Estate Trust is partnering with a developer to build 66 two-bedroom detached homes on 36 acres on the east side of the course. Homes will be marketed to the 55-plus community. As part of this proposal, Sagamore will continue to operate its full 18-hole golf course. The full proposal may be viewed here.
Acceptance of the parcels will allow the District to add new water connections and provide optimum service to the proposed development. Construction and all other expenses will be the responsibility of the development. Once constructed, the Trust will also grant LCWD an easement on the west side of the course, allowing the District to more economically connect wells and the Main Street and Glen Drive treatment stations in the future, improving flow and system resiliency. In an agreement with the Town of Lynnfield, once constructed, the proposal will also restrict development on the west side of the course for a period of 25 years and transfer a 9.4-acre parcel to the Town. Both are features that will benefit the LCWD wellfields in this area.
At the Sept. 28 meeting, Commissioner Joe Maney highlighted that the proposal has some significant strengths. “This proposal maintains the 18-hole golf course in full operation, protects land and minimizes development on the west side of the course near our wellfields which is all really good for LCWD. Daily consumption for the entire built out system is anticipated to be approximately 5,000 to 6,000 gallons a day and LCWD water will only be used for only essential use and no outside irrigation watering. That is also good. This appears to be efficient and smart development from a water conservation perspective and seems to be a much better option than the right option of houses Sagamore retains.”
The Board of Commissioners invite the community to attend a special meeting on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m., to learn more about the Sagamore Springs proposal. Members of the Sagamore team will present on the inclusion of land and will answer questions from residents. The Town also will hold meetings on other components of this proposal.
The Oct. 13 meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Al Merritt Center, 600 Market St. Commissioners’ Sept. 28 meeting discussing the project may be viewed here. Detailed presentations and reports about the project may be found here.
In Article 2 of the warrant for this meeting District voters also will be asked to elect a new Commissioner, following the retirement of Chairman Jack Adelson. The new Commissioner will serve through the Annual District Meeting in spring 2023.
“Jack has provided us with strong financial leadership and support throughout a pandemic, through uncertain times and supply chain challenges,” Superintendent Scenna said. “Thank you to Jack for the countless hours has spent to assist the District and best of luck to you and Betty on your retirement.”
