Since this past summer, LCWD operators have been working with a team of vendors and contractors, including engineers, service operators and technicians at Weston & Sampson, to put in place a short term PILOT Program at Station 2 (Main Street) to treat PFAS at it’s source and prior to entering the distribution system. Information on PFAS can be found here. This website link is consistently updated with the most up to date information available. The system and PILOT program was approved by DEP whom have also provided inspection along the way.
“We are collecting final samples this week, will be coordinating the transfer of our SCADA controls (providing operators the opportunity to monitor operations consistently) and hope to have the system in operation within the upcoming week” said Superintendent John Scenna.
Photos of the construction process can be found here.
In the meantime, work on capital projects continues. At a most recent meeting, the Board was updated that work with the Wakefield connection will start this coming March, weather permitting, and discussion of now including permanent and long term PFAS treatment at the proposed greensand facility at Glen Drive has begun. The District plans to utilize a recently obtained $100,000 earmark from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to start design next month. The District is also trying to determine how best to efficiently utilize the State Revolving Fund (SRF) award for the Glen Drive project, which will provide the project with the opportunity towards zero percent (0%) interest loans.
