Thank you for your cooperation on Monday as work took place on Durham at Lowell Street. Be advised that on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, LCWD will be upgrading the water system at the intersection of Lowell Street and Vallis Way (near 109 Lowell Street). Work involves installing new gate valves within this intersection as well that will assist in controlling flow and isolating pipe segments when needed during maintenance and emergencies. The work is being completed by the Vallis Development project as part of their approved development project.
On Tuesday, the following streets will lose water while others in the general area may be impacted with discoloration and/or pressure changes. Water will be off from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This is the last phase of water system work and impacts on Lowell Street relative to this project.
Areas of water loss
- Lowell Street from Durham to the Peabody town line
- Mohawk Lane
- Lil’s Way
- Smith Farm Trail
If as a result of this work you EXPERIENCE PERIODS WITH NO WATER, POOR PRESSURE AND POSSIBLY DISCOLORATION OF THE WATER, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE WATER IS TURNED BACK ON, please see below:
- Turn your cold water on first and let it run until it is clear, preferably from an outside water spigot.
- Do not run your hot water or use your dishwasher until the water is clear.
- Do not use your washing machine–your clothes may become stained.
- Although the water is safe to drink, please avoid drinking the water if it is discolored.
- We do not recommend, but you may flush your toilet; however, when the water is turned on you will need to flush several times to clear the discolored water from the toilet tank.
- If you accidentally use your hot water while the water is discolored, you may have to completely flush the hot water tank to clear out the discoloration and there is a possibility that you may damage the hot water heater.
